Posted at entrance, next to padlocked gate made of thick rebar. tour permitted only if accompanied by ranger with east bay regional park district. Albeit unwelcoming, message difficult to misconstrue. hardhats are mandatory. black diamond was california's large coal mine from the 1850s to the early 1900s, when the coal extraction ceased operation.
